The Dark Riders of Deadwind Pass have been part of WoW from the very launch of the game, and their lack of resolution and answers have only built the myth of the Dark Riders up to the point of legend. Today, May 7th, the new World of Warcraft: Dark Riders graphic novel written by Mike Costa and illustrated by Neil Googe, which delves into more story behind the mysterious riders from Karazhan, has been released. I want to thank Blizzard for not only sending us a review copy, but also sending one to give away, which we were able to do for Elizabella’s first live show.

From the front cover all the way to the back, the art in this book is incredible, and weaves a thrilling tale that will be heartfelt to anyone who played through the Alliance stories of the Eastern Kingdom. While a couple of panels made me laugh, due to art that didn’t look quite right, the overall story was one that I think any player in the World of Warcraft would love to take part in. Venturing across incredibly familiar areas, meeting people known and remembered fondly from the lands near Stormwind, and engaging characters that draw you into their story, this book will really expand on the lore of that area.

Following the mage Karlain, his son Mardigan, the priest Revil, and others, we travel the areas closest to Stormwind in order to get more information about the Dark Riders, their interest in powerful magical artifacts, the mysterious Wolf Cult, and the worgen threat in Duskwood. From a bar fight in Goldshire to the thrilling conclusion in Karazhan, this story will pull you in and show you a side of the characters that may just surprise you. This is a book I definitely recommend picking up, and adding to your collection of books. Look for World of Warcraft: Bloodsworn, out later this year.

Early in the afternoon the official Patch 5.3 PTR Notes were updated with a number of changes aimed at shortening the grind required in various aspects of the game.

Just hours later, a post from Community Manager Bashiok indicated that one of these changes would be effective immediately following this week’s maintenance.

We’re deploying a hotfix late tonight that will reduce the number of Lesser Charms of Good Fortune required to purchase 3 Mogu Runes of Fate from 90 down to 50. Meaning when you log in Tuesday and purchase your 3 Mogu Runes of Fate, which are used for 5.2 raid boss bonus rolls, it will only cost you 50 Lesser Charms.

We recommend waiting until after the scheduled Tuesday maintenance to ensure this change has gone through before purchasing your Runes. Maintenance is currently scheduled to begin Tuesday, April 23, at 5:00 a.m. PDT. (source)

Players have been asking for help with the grind associated with gearing not only their first character, but whatever alts may follow after it. This quick update should make altaholics with multiple level 90 characters rejoice.

Personally I won’t be as affected by the change. My warlock has over 700 Lesser Charms, so basically this change means instead of being set for the next seven weeks, I’m good for twice as long. Funny thing is I’ll likely earn far more than 50 Lesser Charms a week just from what few dailies and pet battles I do.

That brings me to an interesting question. With Lesser Charms planned to drop off of level 90 and higher creatures in 5.3, is there even a need for the charm system the way it’s designed currently? It almost seems unnecessary to me to have this currency in the game when its almost effortless to obtain.

Regardless of my opinion, the change is a step in the right direction for a great number of players and further proof the Blizzard continues to experiment with how they approach endgame.

Are you a fan of the show Lost? Fringe? Alias? The little seen, but well done Alcatraz? Did you enjoy the Star Trek recent reboot? Well then, my readers with good taste, you are totally going to want the upcoming engineer crafted Bad Robot tribute pet coming in a future patch to WoW, which looks identical to the iconic mascot of the company.

Bad Robot Productions, the production company owned by J.J. Abrams, has quite the resume when it comes to productions. Alias in 2001, Lost in 2004, the aforementioned Star Trek reboot in 2009, and have announced they will be working on Star Wars episode 7, as well as movies in the Portal and Half-Life universes. Bad Robot clearly has a huge fanbase, including some notable fans in Irvine, at Blizzard HQ.

Blizzard recently put out the following post on the WoW website:

It’s with this motivation that we express our respect for JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions.

Coming in a future patch, characters with the Engineering profession will be able to produce this mechanical homage to the company that brought us award-winning television shows like Lost and Fringe, and are continuing the epic Star Trek and forthcoming Star Wars film sagas. Everyone has a chance to get their hands on this pet, allowing them to show off their mutual appreciation for Bad Robot, and the stories they’ve brought to our TVs and movie screens.

We hope everyone enjoys this new pet!

I know more than a few who are excited for this to come into game. In addition to the Skyclaw mount and Pierre pet that didn’t make it into 5.2, and I can definitely say that I want a rare Bad Robot.
