As many of you may not know, doing a weekly 1 hour or so podcast is not an easy thing to put together, even with 3 people on staff. Jen does awesome at her segment and moderating the chat room, and Graece does a spectacular job editing the show for someone who has several part time jobs and a very busy life. I do a lot of research and planning, as well as working full time, and trying to fit other things like a girlfriend and my photography in. Oh, and we all rtry to get some WoW time in here and there.

It is for this reason that we are looking to expand our staff. First, we need someone who can edit the shows and do a great job. Graece and I will, as always, edit ourselves as best we can before uploading the shows for the editor/producer, but it could still take a bit for the person who fills this role to complete it. I would estimate 5-6 hours a week. I would of course show the person how I edit the show, though the person to fill this role would likely need to have their own full featured application for editing audio that has the major aspects like multi track editing, splicing, and so on. Those who apply for this role will get several sample audio clips and be asked to produce a show from them. Please email your info to medros@allthingsazeroth.com.

The next role is of a third co host. As some of you may have noticed, there has been times when there has only been one host, and there have been times when ones of the hosts should have been sleeping and resting, instead of trying to do a podcast. In an effort to liven up the show, even when one host is absent, we are looking to add in a third co host. Those applying for this job should have a decent mic, and some experience speaking authoritatively on a subject related to WoW.

I would like to broaden the experience base of the hosts, so someone with PvP experience would be nice, though is not required. the third chair should be occupied by someone who has a decent self recording app, and though Audacity would be acceptable, I would prefer a more full featured application be used. The applicants for this post should send at least a 10 minute recording of themselves in the form of a segment, which may be played on ATA, with feedback given by community members. Applicants should express their interest in the form of an email to show@allthingsazeroth.com.

Thank you all for your interest. If your skills do not fall in these two categories, but feel you can still be a part of the team, let me know how at medros@allthingsazeroth.com and we can talk! See ya on the show!

State of the Show

I always hate having to make these posts, because they usually follow bad stuff coming down the pike. This time I wanted to address a few things, some good, some bad. First, as you all know, earlier this morning, and I do emphasize early, All Things Azeroth 133 was released. Recorded on Monday, August 14th, the show was released a week later than I prefer to see the shows released after recording. This is due to a Garage Band bug that has cropped up a few times on Graece's Mac, and unfortunately I was not able to devote the time to editing the show myself until Tuesday.

I would like to say that such a delay between recording and editing won't happen again, but I won't lie to you, friends. I do not know what causes this to happen to Garage Band, and I don't have the resources to contact Apple with the needed info to have them answer with possible solutions and fixes. I do, though, want to move on, and try to avoid this becoming a week long problem in the future. This is part of the reason I am making this post.

The front page of ATA has, for a long time, been a once a week virtual ghost town. I want to change that. I am therefore putting a request out there for 3 people to be added to the 'staff' at All Things Azeroth. First, I want an audio editor. This person would, at first, be a back up for Graece's efforts to bring the show out. The person would need knowledge of editing Double Enders together, and be able to devote the time needed to bring the show out with equal or better quality to what we have now. Second and third, I want to bring on some bloggers. These people would be responsible for 2-3 posts a week, length not dictated, just that they be quality posts that can bring readers to the site.

While all three of these would be unpaid posts with the show, you would, as a person filling these posts, share in the ad money when money is paid out. Recently Graece and I both got new mics due to the advertising on the show, and I strongly feel that if we can tighten up in these two areas, bringing the show out better and sooner, and adding compelling content to the front of the site, that this will result in more listeners, and more listeners results in more ad revenue. Other shows have their publishing within a day or two, if not hours of the show's release. I am not sure we can meet the latter option, not without more time in the day, but I think we can definitely do the former with the right team. Join us?

Now to the rest of the update. As many in the live show on the 21st know already, and many of you will hear soon enough, the new mics have arrived for both me and Graece. Hers is a headset, taking the audio off her Mac, and mine is a Blue Snowball Condenser Mic which I bought from Stompalina at Rawrcast. Even in editing my side of the show this week, I was able to tell that the new mic is totally awesome. It picks up more of what I want it to get, my voice and the passion in it, and less of the stuff that has been frustrating me, the background noise in the 'studio' here. I fully intend to make this show totally awesome in sound, and am even considering buying one of these Mic's for Graece, if she would have it.

In November we have the National Podcast Post Month, were we release 1 episode per day for the entire month. We are accepting ideas, suggestions, and thoughts on what you would like to hear. Last year we did the lead up to, and fall out from the launch of Wrath of the Lich King, which was released partway through the month. It was an exciting and energizing time, and led to some of the content we have done on the show in the 10 months since. We have lots of plans to execute for the NaPodPoMo this month, and I want to share a bit with you.

First, we will have a month long contest on the show which we will announce on Graece's 1 year anniversary show in a couple weeks. Second, we have a lot of 'weekly' releases planned for the NaPodPoMo, or AzPod show, including weekly interviews, music shows, and discussions about the highlights, and little mentioned features of the recently announced Cataclysm expansion. We might look at how professions have changed, maybe look over some of the zones we know will change and what we will miss about them, anything is possible and we will have 30 days to fill! Of course, we will still do our weekly episodes on Monday nights, with a plan to release them for the Thursdays. Stay tuned!

The last thing I wanted to mention is the little thing that you see in the top right hand corner of the site. Thanks to Shawno of the Hypernonsense podcast, who's wife Jen(no, not Jena) is our weekly moderator in the live chats(awesome job, Jen!) we now have a voicemail line. 1-785-ATA-WoW-5, or 1-785-282-9695 is the number ot leave us a voicemail for the show, and if it's good, it will get played. If you leave an email saying anything rude or derogatory, you will be blacklisted, and will waste your money. Call it, give us your thoughts, and hear yourself on the show!

That is about it for this novel of an update. I hope to hear from the bloggers and audiophiles out there, and I also hope to hear from all of you by email, voicemail, or even carrier pigeon! Take care, happy hunting, See you in... well... November to Remember!

The future and where to go

This podcast began long before it hit iTunes. It began as a internet radio show, and grew beyond that. I love talking WoW. I love interacting with other players, and for this reason I have lowbie characters on more servers than I can count. The problem I have is two fold. First, we have my desire to make a good sounding show, one that will not bore people, or send them screaming from my feed. Some call it being a perfectionist. The second, is my procrastination. I put things off, and often the show has taken a back seat to my goals in game, like getting my Paladin his netherdrake after finally having enough to get him an epic bird. At this time, he is no more than one week away from that point. The problem at this point is not in desire, as he was in the same place a week ago.

My PC died on me, and while I wait on a new one, and hope I can find my game discs, I am stuck out of game. I do not wish to lose the account I have been working on for 2+ years, so I am afraid of letting someone else use my account. So Medros sits there, nearly to drake, with 2 weeks worth of ore turn ins, and getting nowhere. The booterang he has not thrown, peons he has not poisoned, flayers have not fallen at his plated feet, and that red skin, which I must say actually makes his armor look good, has not covered him. Arita hasn't bombed any Kaliri eggs, and cursed the monstrous ones for their ability to daze. Ameland has not escorted any prisoners to their safety. My account is stalled. The only thing that still runs, is the game time.

Back to the basis of this post. I have found that the segments I have done for The Elf and Dwarf have been fun. They have given me an outlet, and I can do them, from writing to email, in less than an hour. I am not sure I can express my thoughts about WoW in such short segments, but awhile ago, one of the applicants suggested a shorter format than the 1-1.5 hour one I am on now. I think, for the sake of the show, that this will be the case. I want to take this show to a 20 minute show, and to be recorded and published whenever I have something to say. Ironically, I have a lot to say now, but no outlet to do it with. So, that is the plan. I have 2 shows part done, which will likely both be scrapped. I will likely rerecord or edit down the best and worst segment I did, and release it as is. I will keep my Blog updated with the status of a computer, and I hope I can count on you all to come back when I am back online on a regular basis.

Host move

I made a bigger post over here, but the summary is that I am moving hosts, and this site should be moved over late Monday or early Tuesday, which should allow for plenty of time for people to copy what they need from the boards, which may not make the transition as well as the blog here will. I am researching how to make the move from one to the next, but it may not be possible, I may mess it up, or otherwise.

If you are seeing this, Welcome to the new host!

New audio

While not the release of our first show, there is new audio to be found. As well, we now have the feed details for those looking to subscribe in their podcatcher. Lastly, iTunes support will be coming soon, I just need to get a link from them regarding where we can link to once they approve the application.

First, the audio. Lelia and I have recorded two different bits of audio. The first was a teaser, sort of a leadup to our first show, which should be out a few days before the expansion. It will be primarily a group retrospective of WoW now, as compared to 2 years ago, and where we think it will go from here. We will be recording that early next week, so I will have about 6 days in which I can edit it before the expansion hits. The second audio file we recorded is a promo. I know it's not so great, but we will work out the kinks, and will eventually record a better one when the quality I expect is reached. The promo is for those who do their own podcast, radio(even WoW Radio) or other promotional avenues. All I ask is if you play it, let me know so I can thank you and link back to your production.

Second, the feed. The feed is now up, since there was not a lot of use in having a feed with no content. The feed, courtesy of FeedBurner, will be the best place to point your favorite podcatcher toward in order to ensure you have the latest and greatest in show content. There will usually be front page posts for the audio, but those may be a day or two in coming, after I have coded the show notes and have the post looking perfect. As I said above, iTunes link support will be coming soon, we just need to get them to add us to their directory.

That's about it, enjoy the little snippets of content, and I will see you back here in a week or so.

Some of you are new. Some of you are not. For those who are not, I ask you to bear with me, for I would like to introduce those who are not familiar with this to the show.

The roots of All Things Azeroth go back all the way to September of 2004...

Launching Soon...
